The Short Story

1994

Hi Santa!
I hope you're doing good. I ben good this year mostly.

I have one really big Christmas wish

My dad says you go everywere on Christmas Eve even to places nobody else can go. He said maybe you even go to Area 51 to take presents to the aliens there they have to like Chistmas too.

If you do can you pleese take a picture of the aliens for me? Everybody says they're real, but nobody has ever seen one. I think if anyone can get close enuff to take a picture, it would be you. Pleese be carefull. I dont want the guards to catch you.

Thank you Santa!

Your friend,

Holly

__

Christmas morning finally arrived.

Holly rushed downstairs to see all the presents Santa had left under the tree. After every present had been opened, she noticed a small envelope tucked between the branches. She grabbed it and ran to her room. Inside was a single Polaroid photograph. Her heart raced. Santa had answered her letter. But when Holly looked at the picture, she couldn't believe her eyes. It wasn't a photograph of the aliens. It was a photograph of Santa sneaking through the fence at Area 51, carrying his sack of presents. The photograph looked like it had been taken from the air.

Later that night, Holly lay in bed staring at the picture, examining every tiny detail. Then she noticed something she had missed before. Far in the background, almost hidden by the darkness, stood a man in a long trench coat. He wasn't helping Santa. He wasn't guarding the base. He was simply standing there... a chill ran down her spine.
